Our church model

Trinity Heights is a church in West Harlem/Morningside Heights thoughtfully exploring how the Biblical narrative centered on the person of Jesus can be compelling for life today.

What does that mean?

We believe that the Biblical narrative, though of great antiquity, is not antiquated, though ancient, is not archaic. We want to rediscover how this ancient story in all its complexity heightens and justifies all our deepest values and can orient us in this world toward a life of beauty, love and justice.

What does our church look like?

We have several opportunities to meet and connect throughout the week:

  • Biweekly Conversation Groups

  • Sunday Services held on the last Sunday of the Month

  • Book Clubs

All of this helps us live life together and fosters a rhythm of exploring the Christian story.

Who are we for?

We are a congregation of Christians and skeptics in conversation together about life and faith.

Meet our pastor

Stephen Cheung

Stephen is from the UK where he grew up as an agnostic. After discovering the Christian story for himself he completed his theological training at Bristol and has since served churches in the UK, Mexico and America.

Stephen is also a Nietzsche scholar. Having completed his PhD from the University of Durham, UK in 2022, he continues to research and publish work on the intersection of Nietzsche studies and New Testament theology. To view Stephen’s current publications and papers click here .

Stephen is married to Julia and they absolutely love living in the city, having moved to NYC in 2014. If you don’t find Stephen officing out of a local coffee shop you can find him in his box at the opera. (No, he doesn’t actually have a box at the opera, but he is an avid opera fan.)
